Started in January 2009 by Kerri Trickey and Jennifer McKean, the Island Turbine Action Group (ITAG) was a campaign group formed to support Wind Turbine applications on the Isle of Wight.

The group was primarily Facebook based, and designed to counter the group called ThWART (The Wight Against Rural Turbines).

Since its formation ITAG has gained 1,751 members on Facebook, and been featured in the local media when Turbine issues have been raised.

I designed the logo for the group, which was selected from a number of designs by Kerri, I also produced a website for the organisation, and finally I produced placards protesting the Vestas wind turbine factory closure in summer 2009.

Each of these elements has been reproduced in local and national media, the placards being seen on the front page of The Morning Star, in the pages of The Socialist Worker, and in the background of national bulletins.

Locally the website was shown in a report by BBC South Today, and logos and photographs of the placards could be found in the Isle of Wight County Press and news site VentnorBlog.

ecoEmblem is a venture which off-sets the carbon used to make your mobile device and puts that money into wind energy projects around the UK.

In mid 2009 I was asked to create the identity for a new venture by student Daniel Perkin, which became ‘ecoEmblem’. The venture sells stickers or ‘emblems’ for mobile phones and laptops, which go towards funding wind energy projects in the UK. The logo also represents the emblem product itself.

As part of the project I designed not only the logo, but also packaging for the product, as you can see below.

I was asked back to design both the website ecoEmblem.com, and the packaging for the product which I endeavoured to make professional class.

My Final Major Project at university, ecoactivist is a social media environmental activism programme. It was an exercise in branding, advertising and marketing.
ecoactivist 'do nothing, sit back and relax' billboard campaign

ecoactivist was conceived as an idea to bring environmental activism into the age of social media, organisations such as 38 Degrees have shown that in little more than a few months a fully fledged, effective and powerful activist organisation can be built, simply through use of social media tools.

Following the lead of ‘38 Degrees’ and ‘Take Back Parliament’ this organisation seeks to build activism and brand it through the use of the ‘green blue green’ colour scheme, the aim being that you would always be able to identify an ecoactivist protest and member through its brand, and in turn have the brand and colour scheme associated with environnmental activism in general, through heavy involvement with existing causes.

Services like 38 Degrees, who built their brand on social network advertising, inspired ecoactivist, but the organisation has not carbon copied these techniques. As you will see in the pages that follow, conventional above the line and new high tech advertising plays a key role in building the brand.

ecoactivist's social media presence, including Facebook and Twitter.
