National Portrait Gallery YCN Project
In early 2009, I was challenged to come up with the concept to “Encourage more locals to make ‘bite-sized’ visits’ to the National Portrait Gallery. Here’s what I wrote about the project:
While many perceive history to be a boring topic, no one feels that way about being a part of history. My idea for a local campaign for the National Portrait Gallery will excite and provoke visitors around the gallery to visit, tell their friends, and truly feel like they are a part of the Gallery, and indeed, history.
The plan would involve a new portrait being added to the gallery on a large video screen, the screen would in sequence animate and show portraits of local people and visitors being made up from other visitors photos along with portraits that are a part of the gallery’s collection into a photomosaic.
The photos would be collected by a booth outside the gallery and others in the local area, like Trafalgar Square, enticing people to visit to see their portrait in the portrait.
