Happy new year, and welcome to the future!

Doc BrownAye, I will probably make some sort of future themed reference every time we click up a number on the old year-o-meter, but it’s only once a year, or twice, if you really think about it too much.

The past year was interesting and exciting, from doing work experience at Channel 4, to getting mugged, to seeing the next president of the United States, in person. I can’t say it hasn’t been eventful.

The future is an uncertainty, as I’ve proven with the past year, anything can happen. So we’ll see, have a great 2009, you deserve it.

My Experience at Channel 4 (and my photos of London!)

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to get a chance to experience what it’s like working for one of the UK’s largest broadcasting corporations, Channel 4. It was strange since (because of having no television and a mac laptop) I hadn’t even watched Channel 4 over the last year!

As you might know, Channel 4 doesn’t make any of it’s own programmes, it commissions and buys them from independent production firms. Even Channel 4 News is not produced from within the companies own building. Their main building can be seen in this ad for (coincidentally) Channel 4’s Generation Next season:

Yes I went through that building many times and travelled and waited for those lifts! So you’re probably wondering what the heck I was doing at Channel 4 and what I saw. Check after the break for the goods, and my photos! (more…)

Write off to a good start…

Well the results are in, my friends mini was a write off, which is a great start for him,if you’re wondering, he doesn’t have the car anymore, thankfully he had full insurance and got the expensive stereo out, but there’s no hope for “Daisy” which is a pity.

All this comes at a time when crashes and statistics about the roads are rife on the news, that and a demonstration of how firefighters deal with crash victims at college can’t exactly help my friend’s recovery process.

Here are some interesting tidbits for you now, Jon Snow has refused to wear a poppy on air on Channel 4 News, calling it just another charity symbol, and saying it would infringe on his impartiality, and personally I agree with him that that is the correct thing to do, it isn’t a legal requirement, and freedom is what our forces fought for. I hope this move brings more change in the future to things like this which ironically take away our freedom. For an incredible almost comic view into what the other side thinks just look at The Sun’s article on the event.

Other things to look out for include go to mess.be and find out how to get your very own live.com/live.ca/live.co.uk/live.nl etc. email addresses now before all the names are snapped up. Let’s just say I registered a far few for friends and me. :) Also I’d like to point out on behalf of my Canadian friend, this photoblog, which looks pretty cool… Durham Township.

Have a nice day!
